Effects of Compression Ratio

Effects of Compression Ratio Points : effects of compression ratio, diesel knocking, problems in internal combustion engines, ic, engine, auto diesel Increase in compression ratio invariable increases the detonation tendency. Increasing compression ratio increases the peak pressure of the engine cycle and hence reduces end gas reaction time.

The higher the compression ratio, the higher will be the engine friction, leakage and torque required for starting.

The I.C. engine operates at much higher compression ratios than petrol engine, and higher the compression ratio the higher the efficiency. The I.C. Engine draws in pure air only. This air is then compressed to a considerable higher pressure than that used in the petrol engine; thus the air is compressed to 1/4 to 1/8 of its original volume.
