Cylinder Head Leakage and Cracking

Cylinder Head Leakage and Cracking Points : cylinder head leakage and cracking, problems related to cylinder head, problems in internal combustion engines, ic, engine, auto diesel In case of detachable cylinder heads the join between the two machined- surfaces might leak due to cracked gasket or incorrect tightening to the head. The trouble most usually experienced after a top-overhaul is the failure of the cylinder head gasket. Often insufficient care in taken in fitting the gasket and in tightening-down the cylinder head nuts. A faulty gasket may cause nothing more serious than loss of compression.

If the leakage occurs into one of the water passages, however, coolant can enter the cylinder, with disastrous results if a hydraulic lock occurs. If the water seeps down past the piston rings into the sump it will cause slugging and contaminate and antifreeze compound, serious gumming and extensive damage will occur.
