Scavenging

Scavenging Points : Scavenging, Definition, what is Scavenging An important requirement for satisfactory performance of the two-cycle engine concerns the elimination of the burnt gases remaining inside the cylinder when the piston is near the lower end of the firing stroke and exhaust poi or valve is opened. The fresh mixture or a separate air charge is employed to get rid of these gases, or scavenging the cylinder, hut the scavenging operation must he carried out during the very limited period available for this purpose. Thus in the case of an engine operating at 1800 rpm with a scavenging period of say 1000 of crank angle arid this is liberal allowance the whole process of scavenged the fresh air charge will he reduced in amount and the engine will not develop its full power.
