Identification of Engine Troubles

Identification of Engine Troubles Points : Identification of I.C. Engine Troubles, Problems in Internal Cumbustion Engine A few common engine mechanical problems include: leaking gasket, worn piston rings, burned and leaking valves, loose or worn engine bearings, worn timing chains, and damaged (cracked broken, scored engine parts. These problem can occur after extended service (high mileage), engine overheating, lack of periodic maintenance, and other types of abuse. The symptoms (signs) that result from these types of problems include:

1. Excessive oil consumption (engine oil must be added too often).
2. Crankcase blow by (combustion pressure blows past piston rings into crankcase, and out of breather).
3. Abnormal engine noises (knocking, tapping, hissing rumbling).
4. Engine smoking (blue-gray, black or white smoke blows out tailpipe).
5. Poor engine performance (rough idle, vehicle accelerates slowly, engine vibrates).
6. Coolant in engine oil (oil has white, milky appearance).
7. Engine locked up (crankshaft will not rotate).
