Nikuradse and so many others. Now-a-days, before any big size hydraulic structure is constructed its model is prepared and tested at some hydraulic research centres. As a result of this, the model testing has become a common feature of the design of hydraulic structures and machines. Prof. Khurmi gave a number of methods for the comparison model to the prototype.

Since the study of a subject, at university level, is done by engineers with only theoretical experience (having little or no practical experience, i.e. field experience therefore the present-day fashion is to prefer the study of Fluid Mechanics to that of Hydraulics. Moreover, the study of Fluid Mechanics has been very useful in space research and rocket launching Programmes.
