Centrifugal Compressor Lubrication

Centrifugal Compressor Lubrication Points : centrifugal compressor lubrication As shown in the figure the oil pump (19) which is submerge in the oil reservoir (28) discharges the oil to the oil cooler filter assembly (3) the oil passes over the cooler water coils where it is cooled to the best operation temperature (145f) and the through the filter (9) where all foreign matter is removed. The pressure of the oil leaving the oil cooler tiller assembly is controlled b the oil pressure valve (13) the au pressure valves regulate the oil pressure by bleeding excess oil back to the oil reservoir. This valve is set to maintain 15 psi greater than reservoir pressure in the R- 113 and R- 11 machines. And up to 15 to 20 psi greater than reservior in the R- 114 machines. A low-pressure cutout (10) serves to shut the compressor down if the oil pressure drops below 4psi

Difference between reservoirs and pump discharge pressure. This cut out will close again when the pressure rises to 9- psi difference, and on machines where this switch is wired in the recycle circuit, the machine will restart. An oil pressure gauge (12) is installed to absorb this system’s oil pressure. Oil that is not by passed by the pressure —regulating valve is directed to the main bearing (2) and the end bell bearing (7) orifices in the bearings chambers restrict oil leaving the bearings oil leaving the bearing flows via the oil drain lines (21) back to the oil reservoir. Oil returning form the main bearing passes over the thermometer bulb (8). This temperature can be observed on a temperature gauge (1), which is located on the side of the oil reservoir. The temperature of the motor end thermometer is required. Cooling water, which enters the oil cooler filter assembly passes, through a solenoid valve (5) which is usually wired in parallel with the compressor, and a plug cock (6). Adjusting of the plug cock determines the temperature of the oil in the supply line (4) other pertinent items shown in the figure are the oil level sight glass (11) which is located on the oil reservoir to enable visual slightly of the of level. The oil heater thermostat (16) controls the oil reservoir at a specified setting (normally 145 f) at all times. An oil reservoir thermometer (14) is provided lo observe the temperature. The oil reservoir, heater including lamp (17) illuminates whenever the oil heater is in operation. An oil charging value (18) is located at the bottom of the oil reservoir and is used to add or remove oil form the system. A vent line (20) form the compressor suction to oil reservoir vents refrigerant gas back to the compressor suction. This vent line is attached to a fitting located on the horizontal centerline of the inlet venture.

On machine with electronic controls oil pressure is used with drive the vane actuator’s motor (23) which controls the position of the pre whirl guide vanes (26) via of solenoid (24) and check valve (25).
