Ammonia Water System Component

Ammonia Water System Component Points : Ammonia Water System Component,(Air Conditioning System) Generators The generator, also called the still or retort, is large heavy shell or cylinder which should be capable of standing a pressure of 500 pounds per square inch. In the generator, ammonia gas is driven off from a solution of ammonia is water (aqua ammonia) through the agency of heat. A steam source is usually employed for this purpose. Condenser The condenser is that part of the system in which the ammonia gas is condensed. It consists principally of a number of pipes connected to one another in a manner similar to that used in ammonia compression refrigeration plants. Analyzers The analyzer forms the upper part of the generator and receives the rich solution form the pump. The solution descends over a series of discs or plates until it meets the boiling liquid in the still. The vapor rising, from the still comes into intimate contact with the descending liquid, and it is thus enriched in ammonia and deprived of water. Rectifiers The rectifier (also called dehydrator) is a small coil surrounded by water, and its function is to remove water vapor from the mixture of water and ammonia driven off from the generator. It is placed between the analyzer and condenser. Heat Exchangers The heat exchanger (also called equalizer) is an apparatus of the shell and coil or double pipe type. Its function is the transfer of heat form the weak liquid of the generator to the rich liquid coming from the. absorber. The weak liquid coming from the lower part of the generator is very warm, while the strong liquid coming from the absorber is cold so that it is desirable to transfer as much of the heat as possible form the generator to the absorber. Absorbers The absorber is a cylindrical vessel or shell into which the vapor of ammonia is led as it comes from the refrigerating coils, and where it is mixed with the weak liquid, which comes from the lower part of the generator it may be of the shell and coil, straight-tube, double-pipe double- pipe or atmospheric type.

When the as in the generator has been distilled, it leaves the’ aqua weak, especially at the bottom, and this weak liquid is forced through the exchanger to the top of the absorber, where it is thrown in a spray over the incoming goes and the water coils by means of a value at the top.
Pumps The pump is the only moving piece of machinery in an absorption plant. The function of the pump is to move the rich liquid from the absorber and force it through the heat exchanger into the generator. Brine coolers or EVAPORATOR The brine cooler consist essentially of a cylindrical welded steel vessel having a number of tubes expanded heads with baffle ribs, so arranged as to pass brine eight to ten times the length of the cooler through the tubes. The anhydrous liquid ammonia occupies the lower part of the shell around the tubes.
