Effects of Back Pressure
Effects of Back Pressure
Points : effects of back pressure, problems related to exhaust system, problems in internal combustion engines, ic, engine, auto diesel
Exhaust back pressure is the amount of pressure developed in the exhaust system when engine is
running. High hack pressure reduces engine power. A well designed exhaust system should have low
back pressure. The restriction of the exhaust pipes, and muffler contribute to exhaust back
pressure. Larger pipes and free-flowing muffler, for example, would reduce hack pressure. Back
pressure is produced due to backfiring. Back-firing is caused by the air- fuel mixture igniting
in the intake manifold or exhaust system. A loud Bang or Pop sound can be heard when the mixture
ignites and burn. Backfiring can be caused by incorrect ignition timing, crossed spark plug wires, cracked distributor cap, or other faults.
