Delay Period Phase of Combustion
Points : delay period phase of combustion, phases of combustion, problems in internal combustion engines, ic, engine, auto diesel
It is the time it takes diesel oil to heat up, vaporize, and begin to burn, it is the time lapse
between initial fuel injection and actual ignition (burning), a rapid chemical reaction which is
not caused by an external ignition source such as a spark, a flame, or a hot surface is called
auto-ignition. Sometimes this reaction is termed as “explosion”. The delay period is the time
between the end of the compression stroke and the end of appreciable pressure rise due to
reaction is called the delay period or reaction time.
The delay period in Diesel Engines often called the ignition lag is the period of preliminary
reactions, which occur prior to the appearance of flame in the auto ignition of premixed
charges. The delay period in Diesel Engines is also sometimes considered a period of heating the
fuel droplets before any chemical reaction occurs.
